The role
For the Defense Engineering & Technology organization in The Netherlands, we are looking for a Controls & Software Engineer. The Controls & Software Engineer plays a pivotal role in the development, engineering, integration and testing of autonomous unmanned systems for Defense applications. You will be part of a dedicated, multidisciplinary project team within GKN and responsible for the development of advanced control systems and embedded software. We are looking for a capable and flexible Controls & Software Engineer for the Product Engineering Department within Defense Engineering & Technology to help develop the future of defence technology and products.
In this role, you will
* Work across the entire software development process from requirements to integration and proving, supported with effective documentation.
* Develop embedded software, system architecture design and software-hardware integration.
* Oversee the transition of development hardware into series production, including robustness testing and qualification testing and design certification.
* Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and subject matter experts, as well as work with external and international partners.
In this role, you need
You are proactive, self-starting, have relevant experience in Controls & Software Engineering, preferably in Aerospace, and possess strong technical problem-solving skills. You are a team player, familiar with multidisciplinary environments, and eager to learn. You should bring passion and expertise for your work, along with the following skills, experience, qualifications, and attributes:
* Bachelor or Master Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
* Strong background in (embedded) software engineering on complex systems, including software architecture, system functionality, software/hardware integration, and verification.
* Experience in control system design.
* Knowledge of electronic systems, data communication, processing architecture, and signal safety.
* Familiarity with model-based design, software development cycles, and systems engineering processes, including coding standards, quality, maintainability, peer reviews, and version control tools.
* Experience with (embedded) software languages, especially Standard C; knowledge of C++ and Python is a plus.
* Knowledge of UAV, missile, and complex weapons systems technologies such as sensors, guidance, navigation, propulsion, datalinks, etc., is desirable.
* Familiarity with Defence, Military, or aerospace standards and design assurance processes is essential.
* Excellent communication and analytical skills.
* Collaborative approach and ability to work well in a team across disciplines such as Systems Engineering, Electronics, and Test & Validation.
* Enjoy solving complex technical problems that may extend beyond software alone.
