Band 5 Biomedical Scientist – Virology/Immunology (Infection Sciences). Fixed term 18 months.
Based at the Cumberland Infirmary, Infection Sciences Department.
Applications are invited from HCPC registered BMSs (or HCPC pending).
Main duties of the job
The diagnostic workload is approximately 140,000 virology/immunology tests per year. Responsibilities include:
* Performing automated serological and molecular testing on platforms such as Cobas e601, Dynex DS2, Diasorin Liaison, Phadia 250, Sebia Capillarys, Hydrasys 2, Binding Site Optilite, Cobas 6800, Seegene STARlet, Altona AltoSTAR and ABI Prism 7500.
* Conducting manual ELISA tests and acting as a referral centre for Aspergillus, Farmers' Lung and Avian precipitin work.
* Ensuring compliance with ISO 15189 accreditation, maintaining Telepath LIMS, ICE electronic requesting and Q‑Pulse quality management system.
* Participating in technical audits, training, portfolio development and continuing professional development activities.
