Tarmac is seeking an Assistant Tax Accountant to support our Tax accountant in partnering with relevant key business stakeholders to submit accurate VAT returns in various areas.
About the Role
As the Assistant Tax Accountant, you will assist with providing and reporting effective financial information and management accounting at each month-end and as required throughout the month.
Your responsibilities will include (not exhaustive):
* Assisting with the production of VAT, aggregates levy, landfill tax, CIS, intrastats, EC Sales, and Tied Oil returns, ensuring accuracy and deadlines are met
* Preparing and posting journals and payments
* Completing high-quality balance sheet reconciliations according to guidelines and schedules
* Assisting with the preparation of tax packs for the UK tax team
* Supporting the assistant manager and team members to deliver month-end close
* Assisting with quarterly balance sheet reviews with business unit finance
* Supporting internal and external audit requests and queries
* Undertaking any ad-hoc analysis or tasks as needed
What we are looking for
It is essential that the Assistant Tax Accountant has relevant accounting experience and/or is actively studying towards an accountancy qualification (AAT/ACA/CIMA/ACCA), with study support provided.
Candidates should demonstrate strong financial acumen, possess intermediate to advanced Excel skills, and be able to work with complex data. You should work well under tight deadlines, escalate issues confidently, have good knowledge of accounting and financial systems, and show strong attention to detail.
Key Stakeholders
You will work closely with internal teams including R2R Assistant Managers, Business Unit Finance teams, Financial Planning & Control, and the UK Tax Team.
