Haemoglobinopathy Clinical Nurse Specialist for adults, children and young people (joint adult and paediatric cross cover post)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and self‑motivated nurse with strong clinical, leadership skills and expertise to join the Haemoglobinopathy (red cell) nursing team as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. This will provide an excellent opportunity to focus your advanced nursing skills on direct patient care and service development. The post holder will be responsible for the coordination of patients throughout their complex care journey. Within the team, there is a wide breadth of experience and there will be a need to cross‑cover within the team, as well as in the paediatric service, to ensure a safe service.
The role is a specialist educational resource and the post holder will be expected to facilitate the professional development of junior nurses in the department. The post has full administrative and data management support.
Main duties of the job
This post involves lifelong care for all patients with haemoglobinopathies and iron disorders, and we are now also involved in the Bone Marrow Transplantation and Gene Therapy pathways. You will be responsible for all aspects of their care as designated below. The team is responsible for liaising with a number of external services such as the Red Cell Network Haemoglobinopathy coordinating centre (TRCN HCC), the National Haemoglobinopathy Panel (NHP), NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), as well as working closely with patients and their carers and health and care services outside of UCLH. The post holder will manage and coordinate clinical follow‑up programmes as part of a multidisciplinary team. They will act as a key worker for patients and require a sound knowledge of the potential medical and psychological needs of the patient.

All of the specialist nurses in Haemoglobinopathies/Haematology are actively involved in the Macmillan Cancer Centre (MCC), which houses clinic, day‑care, apheresis and diagnostic services. We work closely with our Haemoglobinopathy Co‑ordinating Centre (HCC) and take an active lead in being a Specialist Haemoglobinopathy Centre (SHT).
The general Haemoglobinopathy/Haematology CNS team is part of the renowned haematology and cancer nursing service at UCLH and we provide professional development, both in‑job and through postgraduate pathways. You will have the opportunity to attend national and international conferences. In return, we are seeking highly motivated graduate candidates with a strong nursing background, including substantial Haemoglobinopathy/Haematology experience and having completed or working towards a postgraduate qualification.

Person Specification
Knowledge and Qualifications
* Registered Nurse – Paediatric/Adult (or equivalent)
* Teaching/Assessment programme
Experience
* Minimum 3 years' relevant post registration experience in same specialty
* Undertaking or willing to undertake Masters Degree or Minimum 2 years' relevant post-registration experience in same specialty
* Honors Degree in nursing, midwifery, research or ethics
Skills and Abilities
* Articulates reasons for desire to work in this clinical area; has clear vision of the role

* Communicates effectively verbally, in writing and in electronic formats
Personal and People Development
