Job Description: Assistant Land and Planning Manager
We are working with a national strategic land promoter to recruit for their commercial land acquisition team. The successful candidate will join as an Assistant Land and Planning Manager and work from modern offices in Birmingham city centre. Ideally, candidates will have 1-2 years of post-graduate experience in a similar role.
Responsibilities
1. Source new strategic planning opportunities through networking and proactive site searching.
2. Assess incoming land promotion opportunities for suitability, considering planning policies and environmental constraints.
3. Make recommendations to the Group Director regarding target Local Authorities, supported by evidence.
4. Assist in progressing acquisitions to contract exchange and monitor contractual dates.
5. Maintain a database of land opportunities, including ownership details.
6. Communicate proactively with landowners via letters.
7. Prioritize opportunities and follow up systematically to initiate dialogue.
8. Monitor local authorities and maintain an accurate database of site considerations.
9. Develop sourcing strategies based on local plans, housing needs, and land supply metrics.
10. Keep abreast of national planning policies and appeal decisions.
11. Conduct site visits and meet landowners, agents, and consultants as needed.
12. Support quarterly regional reporting and attend meetings.
13. Engage in personal development and training, including CPD sessions.
14. Support project management of land interests throughout their lifecycle.
15. Perform administrative tasks as required.
16. Organize and participate in project meetings, maintaining project trackers and liaising with teams.
17. Manage external consultants and record expenditure accurately.
18. Conduct desk-based land studies using GIS and local plan documents to assess site suitability.
