About the Department

The IT & Digital department is responsible for the force’s adoption and use of information and digital technology. It comprises three core functions: Architecture Management, Delivery Management and Service Management.

Cloud Services Team

The IT & Digital Cloud Services Team (AWS) designs, builds and runs technology solutions across a wide range of policing functions—including data platform solutions, an automated AI voice solution for non‑emergency calls, secure gateway services and traditional line‑of‑business applications. We are looking for Infrastructure Developers who are passionate about technology, eager to learn and able to contribute to well‑architected AWS solutions.

Key Responsibilities

* Contribute to the production of infrastructure designs for IT solutions in line with force requirements and standards.
* Work with Senior Developers, Architecture Management and Business Stakeholders to understand IT solution requirements and recommend appropriate infrastructure designs and configurations.
* Assist with the build and deployment of AWS infrastructure for new IT solutions, including the configuration of sub‑production environments.
* Write Infrastructure‑as‑Code packages and programmes that provision and maintain infrastructure configurations across multiple environments, ensuring control and consistency.
* Coordinate the deployment of infrastructure solutions into sub‑production environments with Senior Infrastructure Developers.
* Provide technical guidance, cost and performance advice to delivery projects on all infrastructure matters from design to delivery.
* Provide specialist infrastructure skills and knowledge to ensure the security and integrity of the Force’s infrastructure across all environments.
* Design and implement solutions that are resilient and fault‑tolerant in line with service‑level and criticality requirements.
* Ensure backup jobs are implemented and monitored for completeness and veracity, and participate in disaster‑recovery planning and testing.
* Configure and develop appropriate monitoring and alerting components during the build phase of all solutions.
* Work within the CST, Network and Infrastructure Services Teams to thoroughly test and validate all changes, ensuring confidence for production deployments.
* Ensure new and changed infrastructure solutions follow all relevant Service Operations processes and are embedded within IT management toolsets.
* Work closely with Service Management during the introduction of new and changed services into production, ensuring knowledge transfer and high‑quality support documentation.
* Assist with the monitoring and management of third‑party supplier performance.
* Assist Senior Infrastructure Developers in negotiating with partner agencies, suppliers and contractors to achieve desirable outcomes.
* Provide reports and comprehensive working papers, including recommendations for improvements or amendments to systems within the team.

Essential Skills

* Good knowledge of infrastructure technology encompassing networking, compute, storage and operating systems.
* Broad knowledge of general server computer architectures, hardware and operating systems.
* Understanding and appreciation of security technologies and best practices.
* Knowledge of cloud computing services and the different models of cloud service provision.
* Good general knowledge across a range of AWS services and methods for configuring and deploying AWS solutions.
* Understanding of ITIL.
* Knowledge of health and safety issues relevant to the post.
* Comprehensive skills in the development of infrastructure technology.
* Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to confidently interact at all staff levels.
* Good presentation skills.
* Ability to create high‑level context diagrams, detailed infrastructure diagrams, written specifications and documentation.
* Flexibility to use a variety of supporting technologies and to be innovative.
* Ability to work under pressure and balance competing demands and priorities.
* Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with colleagues across the department, wider organisation and external contractors and suppliers.
* Understanding of ITIL processes as they apply to the team and the department as a whole.

Benefit Statement

* Fair remuneration with progression opportunities and access to a competitive pension scheme.
* Enhanced annual leave in addition to public holiday entitlements.
* Discounts across travel, parking, daily costs of living and leisure activities.
* A comprehensive wellbeing package including 24/7 support, free eye tests and flu jabs.
* Comprehensive benefits, including pension, Blue Light Card and employee assistance programme.
