The (Senior) Engineering Manager leads the end-to-end technical lifecycle for DwyerOmega's Dew Point and Oxygen Sensing Product Engineering activities. This position leads the Product Engineering group in the execution of development initiatives that support the Product Line roadmaps. This will include new product development, sustaining, and value engineering projects to be executed within the approved product development process. You will manage and coordinate with a multidisciplinary team of 10, collaborating with Product Management, Operations, Quality, and Commercial teams to deliver roadmap commitments on time, at cost, while meeting or exceeding product performance requirements.
Key responsibilities:
1. Work closely with the Senior Technical Director – Dew Point & O2 Products
on product development and associated initiatives.
2. Work closely with Dew Point and Oxygen Sensing
Product Management Team
to execute product and technology roadmaps, value propositions per portfolio strategy; represent Engineering in customer, supplier and regulatory forums as requested by the Senior Technical Director.
3. Own product specification capture for assigned products
, working closely with Product Management in addition to Operations, Procurement, Quality to define product design specifications in support of cross-functional needs and in support of the Product Line business case- both cost and timing.
4. Lead Dew Point & Oxygen Sensing Product Engineering
, applying the approved product development process and ensuring technical excellence from concept through to post-launch sustaining. Ensure milestones, cost targets, and gross-margin goals are met or exceeded utilising assigned team resources in addition to Shared Service resources as assigned.
5. Develop and document discipline-specific best practices and processes.
6. Ensure Health & Safety best practice within Engineering group.
7. Risk Management & Compliance.
Active in identifying risks and working with Compliance team to ensure designs meet all certification & regulatory requirements.
8. Develop and coach a high-performing engineering organization
: working closely with your Senior Technical Director- cascade Product Line, Business and Personal objectives to drive career & personal development, engagement and succession planning with your team. This includes performance reviews and compensation management within budget and business objectives.
9. Manage assigned Engineering budget and capital investments
for NPD&I, and Sustaining project needs (aligned to strategy) and any other investments to support the Product Line.
10. Assess, select, and integrate engineering tools and technologies
that support the team's needs and improve operational efficiency in coordination with the Extended Engineering staff as needed to ensure alignment with the DwyerOmega Engineering Operating System.
11. Deputise
for the Senior Technical Director as requested.
Required qualifications
Bachelor's or Masters degree in a relevant engineering or physical-science field.
Skills & Experience
Essential
* Proven experience developing sensing or analytical instrumentation.
* Proven experience in leading and managing engineering teams, with strong skills in mentoring, performance management, and team development.
* Demonstrated delivery of commercial product launches.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with various stakeholders and foster cross-departmental collaboration.
* Demonstrated ability to forecast and manage budget- headcount, capital spend, outside spend.
Desirable
* Experience of Moisture or gas measurements.
* Demonstrated expertise in leading stage-gate development processes.
* Familiarity with UKAS-accredited lab operations and ISO/IEC 17025 quality systems.
* Familiarity with lean/DFSS toolset (Kaizen, Six Sigma, Shainin) or other structured problem-solving methodologies.
* Familiarity with reliability engineering concepts.
* Track record of generating recognized intellectual property.
* Experience leading multi-site Teams.
