Job Title: Civil Engineer - Drainage & Infrastructure Design Location: Edinburgh The Opportunity A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a driven Civil Engineer. Role Overview In this role you will focus primarily on drainage design, project management, and contributing effectively to teamwork and project delivery. As part of the civil engineering team, you'll help develop engineering solutions, manage technical design output, and support the budgeting and resource planning functions of projects. Key Responsibilities Manage and produce technical designs and documentation related to drainage and wider civil engineering works. Support the team in project delivery, ensuring timelines, budgets and resourcing are monitored and reported. Develop engineering options, evaluate alternatives and present your recommendations. Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets for projects, including planning, monitoring and reporting of resources. Design Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) such as soakaways, swales, ponds/basins, and cellular storage solutions. Secure statutory approvals including liaison with relevant authorities (e.g., water/sewerage regulators, environmental agencies). Use software such as MicroDrainage or Causeway FLOW to generate drainage network designs (essential). Utilise tools like Autodesk Civil 3D (beneficial but not essential) for civil modelling and design. Produce technical reports and contribute to high standards of written and oral communication across stakeholders. Candidate Profile Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or equivalent. Actively working towards professional registration ( IEng/CEng ) or committed to doing so. Consultancy-based design experience preferred, especially focused on drainage and associated civil engineering works. Strong technical knowledge of drainage design and relevant standards. Ability to work as part of a professional, experienced team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
