Speech and Language Therapy Associate Practitioner

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Speech and Language Therapist Associate Practitioner to work alongside Specialist Speech and Language Therapists and Youth Justice staff in the Dorset Combined Youth Offending Team. You will be working at a universal and targeted levels supporting children and young people who are currently accessing the Youth Justice Service. Part of the role will involve working with children young people at risk of exclusion, their families and schools.
You will join a small established multi-disciplinary health team, comprising of SLTs, a Clinical Psychologist and Mental Health nurses, who work within the wider Youth Justice Service to support the physical, social and emotional health needs of young people. You will work with colleagues to contribute to a holistic understanding of a young persons strengths and needs and to formulate a support plan.
You will also be part of the wider team of Children and Young Peoples Speech and Language Therapy Service working across Dorset to deliver Speech and Language Therapy in close cooperation with other professional colleagues. This role will include the opportunity to contribute to service development and audit.
This is a fixed term role and for those with current NHS service, the role will be offered on a secondment basis only. Please obtain permission to be released on a secondment before submitting an application.
Main duties of the job
* Working with the Speech and Language Therapy Specialist Therapists and the wider Youth Justice Service to deliver a high quality speech and language therapy service for children and young people
* Deliver therapy programmes, training, coaching and other interventions devised by specialist speech and language therapists to individuals and groups
* Work collaboratively with the wider YJS to support communication friendly interventions in a range of locations
* Advise Teaching Assistants and parents about the speech, language and communication needs of individuals and to assist in the development of systems alongside the Speech and Language Therapist and supporting them to track access and frequency of interventions provided
* To support the development of appropriate resources and easy read information
Person Specification
Job Specific Experience
* Experience of planning, organising and delivering interventions to children and young people individually and in small groups to achieve identified learning objectives in an educational environment
* Experience of implementing personalised learning plans, behaviour guidelines
* Ability to work autonomously and in close liaison with others
* Experience of directing and supporting others to deliver therapeutic interventions
* Able and willing to be flexible in approach to work and responsive to changing demands of the service and clients
Administration responsibilities
* Participate in the development and maintenance of systems to track access and frequency of interventions
