Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in a Band 8a role as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist within our Children and Young People's Mental Health Services (CYPMHS) multidisciplinary team. The role involves delivering a high‑quality service provision that promotes and improves the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people and their families in the east of Hertfordshire, primarily at Hoddesdon with possible coverage of Welwyn Garden City and Bishop Stortford.
Main Duties
* Responsible for a caseload of complex assessment, treatment and consultation work with children and their families/carers/networks who have mental health issues.
* Act as a care coordinator where appropriate, ensuring provision of a care plan, initiating, planning and reviewing the client’s care.
* Work in ways which are sensitive to and appropriate for the needs of families from a wide range of racial, cultural and religious backgrounds, including use of therapeutic interventions for single parents, same‑sex couples, extended families, and families with mental health difficulties.
* Maintain clinical notes, reports for internal use and external agencies, and communicate effectively with referrers and other professionals.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues within the CMHPHS, including the Tier 4 Home Treatment Team, Tier 3 community clinic teams, Eating Disorder Team, Crisis Team and DBT team.
* Provide consultations to other professional and non‑professional groups and support service quality monitoring such as clinical audit and evaluative research.
Qualifications & Experience
* Relevant training and professional registration as a child or adolescent psychologist (HCPC registration).
* Post‑doctoral training in at least one specialised area of psychological practice (e.g., CBT).
* At least 2 years post‑qualification experience providing specialist assessment and treatment to children and adolescents with complex emotional, psychological and behavioural problems.
* Experience within CYP‑IAPT/CAPA framework and delivering core and specialist work.
* Experience of supervising or teaching other professionals and of providing consultation to multidisciplinary teams.
* Knowledge of child protection procedures and ability to exercise clinical responsibility within a multidisciplinary care plan.
Desirable
* Specialist training in CAPA and CYP‑IAPT.
* Experience in neuropsychological assessment and supervision of clinical/counselling psychologists.
* Published work in peer‑reviewed journals or professional books.
* Experience in service quality monitoring such as clinical audit.
Personal Skills
* Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
* Capacity to work therapeutically with young people and their families.
* Positive problem‑solving approach and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Physical Skills & Requirements
* Valid driver’s licence (unless disability exempts).
* IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
* UK professional registration required; Disclosure and Barring Service check required.
Contract
Fixed‑term, 12 months, part‑time, Band 8a, salary £55,690 to £62,682 per annum plus 5%.
