We’re looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join us as an Assistant Scientist in the Organic Chemistry team at our Monitoring Laboratory based in Starcross.
Responsibilities
* Demonstrate safe working practices in line with Environment Agency guidance.
* Analyze environmental samples using a range of analytical techniques to deliver high‑quality analytical services.
* Follow all Quality Control procedures and maintain ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation throughout the day‑to‑day operations.
* Prioritize and plan work, complying with Health and Safety, laboratory and Environment Agency policies and procedures.
* Work independently and co‑operatively with the team to achieve common goals.
* Support the day‑to‑day running of the laboratory so that key analytical targets are met.
Qualifications & experience
* Educated to degree level in a scientific discipline (preferred but full training will be provided if not).
* Strong interest in pursuing a career in science.
* Previous experience working in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory is advantageous but not essential.
* Key capabilities include self‑management, commitment to health, safety and wellbeing, and the ability to apply analytical knowledge and experience.
Working patterns
Monday to Friday, 37‑hour week, non‑hybrid role. Work will be based at the Starcross Laboratory in Exeter with occasional travel for training.
