The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) is the governing and regulatory body for horseracing in Great Britain. It is the BHAs role to act for and on behalf of the whole sport, with a key objective being to ensure the highest standards apply on and away from the racecourse.
The BHA is looking to recruit a Diversity and Inclusion Project Manager to coordinate the delivery of key industry initiatives that advance diversity and inclusion within British horseracing, as outlined in the Our People, Racings Future workforce strategy and the Industry D&I Strategy currently in development. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of the diversity and inclusion space in one of Britains most attended sports.
The industry D&I strategy work is being led by the BHA, on behalf of and in collaboration with all those involved with the racing industry, and is a key enabler for the whole industry strategy. From areas like the sports leadership and governance, to the needs of racings people, and attracting the next generation of diverse customers collective action is needed to grow the industry. We are looking for an excellent communicator who is effective and efficient in planning and coordinating project delivery on time and to budget. Your experience is likely to have come from a project management background, ideally coupled with experience of working in the diversity and inclusion space. To be successful in this role, you will be a strong team player and have experience of running complex and cross-functional projects and you are able to establish credibility and rapport with multiple stakeholders across various different business areas. You are problem solver who is able to think creatively to provide effective solutions in a fast-paced environment. About The Role
ROLE PURPOSE:
Based within the Industry People team, the appointed Diversity and Inclusion Project Manager will be involved in coordinating the delivery of key industry initiatives that advance diversity and inclusion within British horseracing, as outlined in the Our People, Racings Future workforce strategy and the forthcoming Industry D&I Strategy. This could include developing and leading a programme to support industry organisations signed up to the Industry Commitment to improve their D&I, the sports ethnicity action plan, or initiatives to promote female jockeys.
You will need to work with the Head of Diversity and Inclusion, Diversity in Racing Advisory Group (specifically the Chair), wider People Team and stakeholders to agree priorities, identify project scope and manage the delivery. There may be other areas and pieces of work which the Diversity and Inclusion Project Manager will need to assist with on an ad hoc basis.
DIMENSIONS:
Committees and Groups: Horseracing Industry People Board (HIPB), Diversity in Racing Advisory Group, BHA Strategy & Change Department, including BHA Industry People team
Stakeholders: BHA shareholders (National Trainers Federation, Professional Jockeys Association, National Association of Racing Staff, Racehorse Owners Association, Racecourse Association, Thoroughbred Breeders Association), funders, key industry service providers (racing schools and other training providers, racing charities), Industry Commitment signatories
Project stakeholders and contractors: as appropriate within specific projects, where management of relevant expertise or suppliers may be required
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Design, manage and evaluate D&I projects aligned with the industry-wide D&I and workforce strategies, with associated project documentation
* Develop clear project plans with defined tasks, timelines, and budgets.
* Determine key objectives and measures for D&I projects, reviewing progress against these on a regular basis
* Monitor and report on key D&I performance indicators to assess impact and guide improvements, including the coordination of updates to stakeholders and key groups
* Work closely with the Head of Diversity and Inclusion and the Chair of the Diversity in Racing Advisory Group. This will include organising and attending Diversity in Racing Advisory Group meetings, giving verbal and written updates and implementing feedback from members
* Provide advice to industry stakeholders on inclusive practices and organisational change
* Work with a range of external stakeholders including racing schools, charities, community and underrepresented groups to drive and implement change
* Organise and deliver impactful training, workshops, and events across the sport
* Stay informed on the emerging best practices and innovations in D&I, applying them appropriately within the horseracing context. As the needs of the business change rapidly this role will change accordingly, therefore this document should be viewed as guidelines which are subject to change.
PERSON SPECIFICATION: QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION
* Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in project or programme management, D&I, or organisational change.
* Accredited D&I training or certifications
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
* Experience of running complex, cross-functional projects and influencing others to work together across business areas and organisations to improve processes and practices
* Track record of developing and implementing projects and initiatives
* Has planned and driven change initiatives
* Experience embedding suitable practices within training, policies and organisational procedures
COMPETENCIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
* Proven Project Management skills within a complex environment on agreed timelines
* A demonstrable determination to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
* Ability to manage budgets and resource requirements
* Experience working on grant-funded projects is desirable
* Experience managing external suppliers
* Excellent interpersonal and team working skills which enable you to develop relationships and work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders
* Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, influencing skills (written and oral), with the ability to listen, inspire, articulate ideas/solutions clearly and positively to a variety of audiences

* Able to demonstrate strong emotional intelligence
