Job overview

An opportunity has arisen to join the Hepatology Clinical Research Team, based in the Grahame Hayton Unit at the Royal London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust. The clinical research unit undertakes and manages clinical trials within the rapidly changing HIV/Sexual Health/Hepatology disease areas, offering a high standard of care to patients from a variety of backgrounds. This post will mainly focus on the areas of NAFLD (Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease) & NASH (Non Alcoholic Steatohepatitis) but will also include Viral Hepatitis, Auto Immune Hepatitis and Alcoholic Hepatitis.

Experience & knowledge within the areas of HIV/Sexual Health/Hepatology and clinical research is essential for this post alongside a recognised post graduate qualification in the care of HIV Disease and/or Liver Disease. The candidate should be highly organised, enthusiastic, patient focused and able to communicate effectively on a variety of levels. Support will be provided but the candidate should be able to work autonomously, show attention to detail and cope well under pressure.

Whilst this is predominantly a 9-5 position, it will require flexibility in hours to fit with service development and support and may therefore, where appropriate, require some early morning or evening cover.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. RGN Educated to BSc or Diploma or working toward & relevant experience.

Desirable criteria

2. Post-graduate/MSc qualifications, i.e. Physical Assessment in the Adult, Post-grad Diploma.

Experience

Essential criteria

3. Minimum 3 years post registration nursing experience at Band 5.
4. 2 year minimum experience working in the clinical trials setting

Desirable criteria

5. Ability to integrate nursing knowledge and skills within research.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

6. Conducting Clinical trials and Recruitment of subjects into trials.
7. Working Knowledge of Research Governance, EU Clinical Trials Directive and Good Clinical Practice
8. HIV or Hepatology Course
9. Competent in standard PC packages, i.e. Microsoft word, excel, power point.

Skills

Essential criteria

10. Venepuncture skills.
11. 12 Lead ECG skills.
12. Ability to triage unwell patients and provide safe care.
13. Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills including: inter-personal, liaison and negotiating skills
14. Ability to produce clear, accurate written medical notes and verbal handover.

Desirable criteria

15. Able to undertake fibroscan

16. It is essential to have the ability to confront challenging issues undertaking a problem solving approach.
17. Demonstrate development and implementation of policies and procedures from initiation to completion
