Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Water)
We are recruiting multiple Senior Mechanical Design Engineers (Water) for various long-term frameworks across the UK, including a recent £100 million framework supporting river health improvements in the Northwest of England.
RPS has over 20 years of collaboration with United Utilities, and this is a significant opportunity as we approach AMP8, focusing on innovative water industry projects that aim to deliver positive community impacts and environmental resilience.
About The Team:
Our Water Consulting team includes Engineers, Modellers, and Data Analysts dedicated to Asset Management and Operational Strategy development, supporting our clients' planning and delivery needs. We work on prestigious AMP8 programmes that will shape the industry into the future.
About You:
You should have experience producing technical specifications, designing pumping and aeration systems, and collaborating on design reviews and safety assessments like HAZOPs. Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes, site infrastructure assessment, and design tools such as AutoCAD or Inventor is essential.
Your Responsibilities:
* Work on projects across UK water frameworks, supporting project delivery and community outcomes.
* Collaborate with senior engineers and stakeholders.
* Mentor junior team members.
* Interpret technical drawings and prepare design deliverables, including calculations, reports, specifications, and drawings.
* Support compliance with CDM regulations and quality assurance procedures.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
* Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
* Experience in the water industry is advantageous.
* Knowledge of pump design, P&ID creation, specifications, and safety regulations.
* Ability to manage work within time, cost, and quality constraints.
* Willingness to travel to operational sites as needed.
Qualifications:
* IMechE-accredited degree; postgraduate qualifications are a plus.
* Chartered or working towards chartership; membership with professional bodies like IET, InstMC, or CIWEM preferred.
