Our client can demonstrate almost half a century's expertise in the design, development and manufacture of bespoke automation and robotic systems for a diverse range of industry sectors and are regarded by many in the industry as one of the leading automation system solution providers in the whole of the UK. As a result of continued success and a planned programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced Lead / Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to complement their established and successful team and deliver innovative special purpose automation machinery projects.
Responsibilities
* Design, detailing and successful delivery of multiple projects from order acceptance to customer handover, communicating effectively with customers, suppliers and team members, and working as part of a team dedicated to delivering projects on time and within budget.
* Perform mechanical design and detailing functions for multiple projects using 3D CAD within the project plan; arrange Design Reviews to ensure requirements are met, design for assembly, robust and reliable operation, and alignment with budgetary constraints while minimising development issues.
* Obtain a Design Pass Off by the customer on time and ensure BOMs are produced on time and within budget; negotiate with external suppliers to obtain cost-efficient materials in line with project budgets and timing plans.
* Assist the electrical design process by communicating clearly throughout the project, and compile a build folder; communicate build details to machine tool fitters to ensure an efficient build process.
* Provide direction and support to fitters, electricians and other engineers; undertake visits to customer sites to understand requirements and obtain measurements for dimensions, drawings, site layouts and other considerations, documenting and communicating these to the customer and internal staff.
* Assess and improve design concepts with a sales quotation team to reduce risks, costs and lead times; identify key risks and assist in compiling trial plans to mitigate them.
* Obtain all parts, samples and drawings in advance to ensure they can be checked during the design phase; check the design work produced by other designers for accuracy; conduct periodic project reviews with customers and maintain a comprehensive Technical Construction File (TCF) including manuals, risk assessments, mechanical parts list and drawings.
* Carry out machine risk assessments during the design phase to ensure Machinery Directive requirements are met; lead projects through development and installation phases with proactive and timely delivery of problem fixes while ensuring that all health and safety rules, guidelines and policies are understood and adhered to.
