Senior Lecturer (1 year post with possibility of extension) in Sustainability and Behaviour Change to work within our Graduate School to teach and lead modules across MSc courses.

Contract type: Fixed Term one year, part time
Responsibility Grade: 33 (Senior Lecturer)
Location: Workplace is the charity’s site near Machynlleth, mid Wales. Department open to home working between onsite modules where necessary.
Hours: 21.6 hours (0.6 FTE) per week ideally but time fraction is negotiable.
Working Days: Generally Monday to Friday though some evening and weekend work is required at times.
Salary: £40,521 p.a. pro rata
Overview of Role
The Graduate School of the Environment (GSE) at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) runs leading postgraduate programmes in sustainability. The GSE is central to CAT’s mission of equipping people with skills to deliver practical solutions for sustainability and transformation.
We are seeking a dynamic individual to deliver the MSc Sustainability and Behaviour Change programme, with responsibilities including managing delivery of modules, coaching staff, and contributing to CAT’s research and communications work.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver and manage MSc Sustainability and Behaviour Change modules, both onsite and distance learning.
* Develop and lead blended (onsite and distance) teaching sessions, including block residential stays and eight‑week online modules.
* Provide online academic support, marking and feedback to Masters-level students.
* Lead interdisciplinary research, communication, and development of CAT site as required.
* Teach visiting groups or short courses if required.
Required Knowledge and Skills
* Specialist knowledge of communication, engagement and campaigning within sustainability context.
* Co‑creation and participatory methods.
* Psychology of environmental behaviour.
* Climate justice and ethics.
* Social enterprise and/or ethical business.
* Futures and systems thinking.
* Quantitative and/or qualitative experimental approaches.
* Proficiency in lecturing, personal tutoring, online academic support, marking, and feedback for Masters students.
* Experience teaching blended modules.
Eligibility and Commitment
Eligibility for this senior lecturer role includes proficiency in delivering blended teaching and a strong academic record in relevant fields. The post is part‑time, fixed term, and may be extended based on performance.
