Responsibilities
* Working within a small team of engineers at the Thales Underwood Quarry site in Wells to supply Radar Cross Section (RCS) measurement services to the UK Ministry of Defence and industry partners.
* Conduct indoor and outdoor RCS measurement tasks to enable characterisation of customer-supplied assets/platforms of varying size and signature levels.
* Develop expertise and understanding in the specification, design and build of target support structures and range facilities for radar signature measurements.
* Prepare treatment of measurement targets and supporting structures to minimise RCS returns and artefacts.
* Collaborate with the Mechanical Engineering Lead in a hands-on role to learn and contribute to design and build activities.
Key Development Responsibilities
* Assembly/modification of customer assets in line with their instructions.
* Operation of the mechanical workshop area and spraying of electrically conductive coatings and other specialist materials.
* Design and manufacture of target support and handling structures to meet measurement task requirements.
* Preparation and definition of lifting plans to ensure safe handling of customer assets and equipment.
* Liaising with sub-contractors on design and manufacture of target supporting structures.
* Design and build of mechanical supporting and environmental protection structures for radar antenna farms to meet task requirements.
* Investigate/identify target/range anomalous returns as part of the RSM team.
* Engage with customers to identify measurement requirements and determine optimal supporting structures and target treatments.
Supporting Role
* Support the RSM Engineer in preparing the Task Measurement Plan and processing measurement data.
* Support the RCS Trials Team Leader in bid preparation.
* Support the RCS Engineer in task planning and the Radar Engineer in radar operation.
* Support the Service Delivery Manager in safe site operations.
* General support activities.

Skills, Qualifications And Experience
* Practical workshop skills and ability to liaise with sub-contractors in aid of design and manufacture of target supporting structures.
* Security clearance: holder or eligible to achieve DV/Developed Vetting; ability to obtain SC where required.
* Working at Height accreditation, IPAF, Forklift, and Overhead Crane/Slinging accreditations (or able to attain).
* Degree level in Physics or Mechanical Engineering (or qualified by experience), ideally with electromagnetic theory specialization.
* Experience with 3D modelling packages (e.g., AutoCAD/Pro/E) for manufacturing drawings.
* Technical competence in planning and execution of Technical Measurement Trials and effective stakeholder management.
Security Clearance
Due to the nature of the work, many roles are subject to security restrictions. This role requires the candidate to be a sole British National from birth and achieve Security Clearance (SC) without caveats. If not currently held, successful applicants should undergo, achieve, and maintain SC clearance prior to starting employment.
