Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
To support teaching and learning across the school by delivering lessons, supporting pupils, and contributing to planning and assessment. HLTAs work under the direction of teaching staff and may lead whole-class learning in the absence of a teacher.
Key Responsibilities
* Teaching & Learning Support - Deliver planned learning activities to pupils under the guidance of teaching staff.
* Lead whole-class sessions when required.
* Support pupils with SEN, EAL, and other learning needs.
* Assist in planning and evaluation of learning activities.
* Monitor and assess pupil progress and provide feedback to teachers.
Curriculum & Planning
* Contribute to curriculum planning and development.
* Implement learning strategies and interventions.
* Support literacy, numeracy, and behaviour programmes.
Pupil Support & Well-being
* Promote positive behaviour and emotional well-being.
* Provide pastoral support and liaise with parents/carers.
* Encourage pupil independence and engagement.
Team Collaboration & Professional Development
* Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff.
* Mentor junior teaching assistants.
* Participate in CPD and maintain HLTA standards.
* Use ICT effectively to support learning.
Person Specification
* Essential
- HLTA Status (nationally recognised).
- Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths.
- Experience working as a Teaching Assistant.
- Ability to plan, deliver, and assess learning activities.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
* Desirable
- Experience leading whole-class learning.
- Familiarity with SEN, EAL, and behaviour support.
- Experience in specialist areas such as literacy or numeracy.
- Ability to liaise with parents and external professionals.
