Join our Team as a Band 5 Prison Nurse at HMP Swansea

Main duties of the job

To assist and support the Band 6 Primary Healthcare lead in ensuring that services are delivered in accordance to HMP Swansea’s Health Delivery Plan

To partake in the areas of primary health care nurse triage and medication administration.

Prioritises own work load within agreed objectives deciding when to refer to others as appropriate.

Be an effective member of the Prison Healthcare service.

To make a professional contribution to the development of prison healthcare services, in accordance with Prison Service and NHS/HB directives.

To develop run and assess evaluate nurse led clinics, Blood Borne Virus vaccination clinics (depending on experience and skill set) reporting to Band 6 primary care lead.

Work, facilitate and report to visiting specialists to assess and review patient care.

Carry out relevant care according to the individualised multidisciplinary care plan contribute to clinical reviews and other meetings reporting on patients condition to other professionals.

To practice algorithm nurse triage in accordance to own competency using evidence based practice and reporting/ referring on to senior colleges or doctors as needed.

Provide emergency response must work weekends and night duty as part of rota.

Person specification

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. NMC registered
2. Clear understanding of consent process

Desirable criteria

3. Evidence of post registration study and training, e.g. Intermediate Life Support
4. POVA
5. Child/Adult Protection
6. Intermediate Life Support if required in clinical setting

Experience

Essential criteria

7. Experience of providing holistic nursing care
8. Pre-registration evidence in direct nursing care
9. Interest in developing nursing skills

Desirable criteria

10. Implement evidence based practice
11. Clear understanding of clinical governance framework
