Offer description

Role Responsibility

We are recruiting an Intelligence Assistant to join our forward-thinking, innovative and ambitious Internal Audit and Counter Fraud Team. This is a great opportunity to gain experience of working within a Counter Fraud environment, and obtain a recognised qualification as a Counter Fraud Specialist.

You will play an essential role in supporting the Councils continuing response to the threat of fraud. Reporting to the Counter Fraud Manager, you will assist with referral management through the collection and review of intelligence, and supporting the team in delivering the Counter Fraud proactive and reactive work programme.

You should be self-motivated with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a positive approach and willingness to contribute towards our excellent reputation for providing respected work. You will need to use and interrogate multiple databases so you should have good IT and data analytical skills. A flexible approach will be required to enable both the management of competing priorities and, at times, travel around the county to support investigations.

You will have 5 GCSEs (A* - C/ 9 - 4) including Mathematics and English Language, or equivalent (Level 2 qualification). You will need experience of meeting multiple deadlines and managing your own workload, as well as interpreting and understanding complex guidance and data sets. You will also have an awareness of how Local Government and the wider public sector operate as well as the role of Internal Audit and Counter Fraud.

The Counter Fraud Team are based at County Hall, Maidstone. KCC currently supports remote working where possible. However, office attendance is required at least once a week for the successful candidate.

We would also welcome applications from Care Leavers to support our commitment as a Corporate Parent.

This post is subject to a Basic Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.

The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description / Person Specification.

Interview dates are set for the 21st and 22nd May 2026.
