Job Description

Our Human Excellence team focuses on the human element of infrastructure, combining Human Factors and behaviour change expertise to understand how people interact with systems, environments, and technology. By understanding why people behave the way they do, we help deliver sustainable, innovative, and people-centred solutions.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for a Graduate Human Factors Consultant to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced specialists on projects across sectors such as defence, rail, aviation, and international infrastructure. You will support the delivery of Human Factors work while developing your technical skills and contributing to the growth of our Human Factors capability.
This role will be based in our Nottingham, UK office, with hybrid working supported (a combination of office, client site, and remote working).
K ey Responsibilities
As a Graduate Human Factors Consultant, you will:
1. Support the delivery of Human Factors and ergonomics assessments across complex systems and infrastructure projects.
2. Contribute to project activities including:
3. Task and workload analysis
4. Human error identification and mitigation
5. User needs analysis
6. Safety and risk assessment
7. Human–system interface evaluation
8. Collect and analyse qualitative and quantitative Human Factors data through methods such as observations, interviews, workshops, and document reviews.
9. Assist in preparing technical reports, client presentations, and project documentation, ensuring outputs are clear and evidence-based.
10. Work collaboratively with engineers, designers, and other specialists within multidisciplinary project teams.
11. Develop consulting and technical skills through mentoring, structured training, and on-the-job learning as part of AECOM’s graduate development programme.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
12. A BSc or MSc in Human Factors, Ergonomics, or a closely related Human Factors discipline.
13. A Human Factors qualification (or equivalent academic specialisation) is required due to the technical requirements of some projects.
14. A strong interest in Human Factors and human-centred design, with the motivation to build a career in this field.
15. Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
16. Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage with clients and stakeholders.
17. The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
18. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for analysis and reporting.
19. Some projects may require eligibility for security clearance, particularly for defence-related work.
