PRINCIPAL MECHANICAL ENGINEER
Location: Congleton
We are supporting a leading engineering organisation in their search for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their operations team.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to lead engineering teams, oversee the delivery of complex technical solutions and play a key role in driving engineering excellence across the business.
Working within a highly collaborative environment, you will act as a senior technical authority while supporting continuous improvement, customer engagement and team development.
The Role: As Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for:
Engineering Leadership – Leading and managing mechanical engineering teams to deliver high-quality technical solutions aligned with customer and project requirements.
Team Development – Supervising, coaching and mentoring engineers to support professional development and engineering best practice.
Technical Oversight – Reviewing and approving engineering calculations, specifications, technical reports and design outputs.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement – Acting as a key technical liaison with customers and internal stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and strong working relationships.
Mechanical Design & Analysis – Supporting the development of robust mechanical design solutions that comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Engineering Compliance – Ensuring all engineering deliverables comply with relevant codes, standards and legislation.
Continuous Improvement – Supporting the development and improvement of engineering procedures, standards and systems.
Complex Problem Solving – Applying advanced engineering expertise to resolve complex mechanical and structural challenges.
Project Delivery – Supporting the successful delivery of complex technical projects on time, within scope and to required quality standards. What We’re Looking For:
Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
Minimum 10 years’ industry experience within a process plant or regulated engineering environment.
Proven experience leading engineering teams and delivering complex engineering projects.
Strong knowledge of BS, EN, AISC, ASTM and ASME codes and standards.
Experience with structural and mechanical engineering analysis.
Proficiency with engineering software such as STAAD Pro and SolidWorks Simulation.
Strong understanding of static and dynamic structural behaviour.
Experience producing and approving engineering calculations, design packages and technical reports.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail. Desirable:
Experience within wastewater or related regulated industries.
Experience with vessels and piping design to EN and ASME standards.
FEA modelling and analysis experience. This is a permanent, office-based role in Congleton. The business are also open to considering differing levels of experience, with salary ranges of £50,000–£60,000 (Senior), £55,000–£65,000 (Lead), and £65,000–£75,000 (Principal) per annum.
