Overview
Calderdale Council are looking to recruit a committed Fire Safety Officer to join our small, dedicated team of Health and Safety professionals. The role offers variety and reward and involves supporting a high-quality, effective Health and Safety service across the borough to promote a healthy, safe, sustainable, and more accessible built environment for our customers and the community.
The successful candidate will act for all services of the authority as the competent person in accordance with Article 18 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 in all matters of fire safety, providing prompt and competent advice at all levels of Calderdale Council, including Council maintained schools.
Responsibilities
* Maintain and promote a positive, legally compliant fire safety culture.
* Record, track, manage and mitigate fire safety risks and associated actions in accordance with current legislation.
* Deliver the aspirations of the Council’s overarching health and safety policy and supplementary fire safety policy.
* Protect employees, assets, and the Council’s legal, moral, financial, and reputational interests in fire safety matters.
* Provide competent advice to both corporate and educational estates and work with experienced colleagues to develop in the role of a Health and Safety Practitioner.
Qualifications and requirements
* Experience or clear potential in fire safety, with the ability to act as the competent person under the Fire Safety Order 2005 in relevant circumstances.
* Ability to deliver high-quality health and safety services across diverse settings, including schools.
* Capacity to work within a career-graded framework with opportunities for professional training.
* Strong communication skills to provide clear, timely advice at all levels.
