3 Month Contract With A Local Authority
Job Purpose:
To plan, deliver, and assess English language learning sessions for adult learners with English as a Second or Other Language (ESOL), supporting them to develop skills in Speaking and Listening, Reading, and Writing. Teaching is delivered in small group settings within community-based venues.
Key Responsibilities:
* Plan and deliver engaging ESOL classes tailored to learners’ needs, abilities, and levels.
* Teach in community settings such as libraries, community centres, and children’s centres.
* Support learners in developing English language skills for everyday use, employment, and further study.
* Conduct initial assessments and ongoing progress assessments to ensure appropriate placement and support.
* Prepare learners for accredited assessments in Speaking and Listening, Reading, and Writing, where appropriate.
* Track learner attendance, engagement, and progress using agreed systems.
* Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
* Provide regular feedback and guidance to learners to support their development.
* Create an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues, venue staff, and support services.
* Ensure all safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection policies are followed.
Requirements
* Recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, CertEd, or equivalent)
* ESOL subject specialism (e.g., CELTA, TESOL, or equivalent)
* Proven experience teaching ESOL to adult learners
* Experience planning and delivering learner-centred lessons at different levels
* Familiarity with ESOL assessment frameworks and accredited qualifications
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work independently and manage a small group learning environments
