Overview
The School of Health Sciences is seeking a passionate and forward-thinking educator to join our pioneering dental education team. As part of our commitment to the continued development of our Dental Hygiene and Therapy programme, we are seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (depending on experience) to provide academic leadership, programme development, and an excellent student learning experience. This is a full time and permanent role.
This is an exceptional opportunity to shape the future of dental hygiene and therapy education in Wales. You will play a central role in delivering innovative teaching, developing clinical placement opportunities with partners including Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and Health Education and Improvement Wales, and ensuring our programmes remain aligned with General Dental Council standards. There will also be opportunities to expand the programmes offered across the dental field including the University’s aspiration to establish a School for Dental Surgery.

The role is based on campus at Bangor, with flexibility to work remotely within the UK as part of our Dynamic Working framework. The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential (Grades 8 & 9):
* Be a dental hygienist or therapist registered with the General Dental Council.
* Postgraduate degree in a relevant subject area (or near completion).
* Minimum of 3 years substantial teaching experience for conversion to HEA Fellowship within 3 years of appointment or a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education.
* Hold a PgCert for Teaching in Higher Education teaching qualification (or equivalent) and/or HEA Fellowship recognition, or be eligible to apply.
Desirable (Grades 8 & 9):
* Educated to PhD level or equivalent in a relevant subject area.
Experience / Knowledge
Essential (Grade 8 and 9):
* Professional experience in the UK as a practising Dental Hygienist or Therapist.
* Experience of module development and delivery in higher education.
* Experience of supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
* Evidence of effective teaching in Higher Education, with demonstrable impact on student learning outcomes (significant experience required for Grade 9).
* Evidence of leadership of quality courses and teaching and departmental initiatives that improve teaching.
* Evidence of involvement in academic quality assurance assessments (e.g. annual course monitoring, internal and/or external validation panels) (significant experience required for Grade 9).
Desirable (Grades 8 & 9):
* Experience in the design, development and delivery of innovative undergraduate curricula, teaching and assessment strategies, aligned to the GDC Standards.
* Evidence of involvement in academic quality assurance assessments (e.g. annual course monitoring, internal and/or external validation panels, etc).
Skills & Abilities
Essential (Grades 8 & 9):
* Excellent verbal and written skills and demonstrable IT skills (e.g. VLE techniques and other forms of learning technologies).
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative.
* Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
Other
Essential (Grades 8 & 9):
* Demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly in English, verbally and in writing to a diverse audience.
Desirable (Grades 8 & 9):
* An appreciation of the bilingual context of health and care delivery across North Wales.
* The ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh is desirable for this role. If applicants are not able to speak/write in Welsh at present, there are many opportunities to learn if the successful candidate wishes to do so.
