Overview
The Ward Clerk role supports the clinical staff in the department with administrative duties. This includes, but is not limited to, answering internal and external telephone enquiries, greeting and assisting visitors to the ward, booking outpatient follow up appointments, booking transport for patients being discharged or transferred for ongoing care, liaising with other departments such as radiology to arrange diagnostic tests for patients, and use of the Trust's electronic patient record system. The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
We are looking for someone to join our team on Trauma Ward 3A as a Ward Clerk. This is a vital role within our service for someone who is organised, friendly, and a great team player.

Ward Context
Trauma Ward 3A is an inpatient ward caring for adults who have sustained traumatic injuries. It is a fast-paced and dynamic environment, so being adaptable and responsive is key. The Ward Clerk role involves substantial interaction with patients, visitors and clinical staff. A background in health care would be an advantage but is not essential. Strong communication skills and compassion are essential, as the Ward Clerk is often the first point of contact for anxious or distressed relatives.
The Trust uses an electronic patient record (EPR) system, so competence with computer skills is necessary. Previous experience with EPR/Cerner Millennium would be advantageous.

* Evidence of attainment of secondary school education / qualifications, NVQs in administration
