Overview

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

This is a full time (37) permanent position working Monday to Friday 0900 - 1700.


Responsibilities

* As part of a multi-disciplinary team within the context of a Community Perinatal Mental Health Team covering the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area, the post holder will have responsibility for the specialist assessment of patient care needs and the development and evaluation of programmes of care during pregnancy and the first post-natal year.
* The post holder will be expected to manage a caseload of individuals experiencing moderate to severe symptoms of mental illness and will be required to practice within a variety of settings including the patient’s home environment, outpatient clinics and within a maternity liaison role within the maternity hospitals situated within the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area.
* The post holder will be expected to carry out all relevant forms of care in partnership with patients, carers and other professionals in line with agreed standards and clinical policies.
* The post-holder will have an active role in the screening of new referrals, providing specialist advice to professionals and responding to potentially urgent and developing situations within their own caseload or via the Perinatal Advice Line / Duty service.
* In the absence of the Nurse Team Lead, taking charge of the team and participating in the supervision and teaching of junior staff will be an important aspect of the role as will be the mentoring of nurses undergoing pre-graduate or post-graduate training.
* The Community Perinatal Mental Health Service is committed to supporting the ongoing professional development of those employed within the team therefore the post holder will have access to our internal teaching programme in addition to exploring external training and learning opportunities.
* The post holder must be a Registered Mental Health Nurse with a current NMC registration and have at least relevant nursing experience as a Band 5 level prior to applying for this post.
* A driving licence will be required due to the potential distance travelled when employed within a board wide service.
