We are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to provide classroom support. The role is wide and varied and may include working with children in a small group as well as 1:1 support for children with special educational needs. We need someone who is calm, nurturing, resilient and flexible and who is keen to learn and develop.

Skills and experience required

1. Experience of working with children with additional needs would be beneficial.
2. Someone who takes initiative and is able to adapt and think ‘outside the box’.
3. Excellent communication skills.
4. Maths and English GCSE (or equivalent)

Duties and responsibilities

Teaching and learning:

5. Supervise and provide support for pupils, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
6. Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour plans and Personal Care programmes.
7. Establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs.
8. Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
9. Encourage pupils to interact with others.
10. Set challenging and demanding expectations, promote self-esteem and independence.
11. Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under the guidance of the teacher.
12. Manage pupil behaviour, taking account of the personal, social and emotional needs of pupils.
13. Support pupils with their medical and hygiene needs
14. Lead and develop play at break and at lunchtimes if required.

Support for teachers:

15. Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils’ work.
16. Use strategies, in liaison with the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals.
17. Assist with the planning and delivery of learning activities.
18. Monitor pupils’ responses to learning activities and accurately record achievement/progress as directed.
19. Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupil’s achievement, progress, problems etc.
20. Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
21. Establish constructive relationships with colleagues and parents/carers.
22. Administer assessments and undertake routine marking of pupils’ work in line with school marking policy.
23. Provide clerical/admin support.

Team work:

24. Work as a member of a team, planning co-operatively, sharing information, ideas and expertise.
25. Establish good relationships with parents to promote pupils’ learning and development.
26. Establish and maintain a positive regard towards pupils.
27. Establish good working relationships with colleagues and abide by the school code of conduct.
28. Report any concerns about pupils to the class teacher or Designated Safeguard lead.
29. Professional development: Receive feedback from monitoring and observations in a professional way.
30. Actively take part in professional development and support the professional development of others.
31. Join in whole school events and activities such as school fairs.

We will provide full training to enable you to fulfil the role required. This may include delivering various interventions and strategies to support learning, self-regulation, sensory needs and positive behaviour management.

Hours for this position are 32.5 per week, term time only
