Offer description

Hertfordshire’s Family Centre Service is made up of the Public Health Nursing Service (Health Visitors and School Nurses) and the Family Support Service. Our purpose is to support children and families to have the best start in life, develop well and thrive. We provide families with children aged up to 5 years with a wide range of services, information and support on key areas relating to family life.

As a Perinatal Practitioner, you will promote the engagement of all parents and families, primarily antenatally and postnatally, in the services and support available to them, both face-to-face and digitally, through the Family Support Service and other agencies, with a particular focus on the more vulnerable families in the community.

You will engage with all parents and carers, including soon-to-be and young parents, while gaining a solid awareness of the local community's demographics and the networks, services, facilities, and support systems available to families in the area.

The Role:
• Deliver a range of antenatal and postnatal specialist programmes for first-time parents and families identified as a priority. Programmes will be delivered through various methods, including group sessions, one-to-one support, digital platforms, and social media.
• Provide services, advice, specialist support, and interventions covering areas such as infant feeding, safe sleep, self-weigh appointments, reducing isolation, and baby massage.
• Manage a caseload of vulnerable families, planning and delivering tailored support interventions. This will involve creative, evidence-based approaches to meet individual family needs through home visits, community-based activities, and group programmes.
• Maintain accurate records and demonstrate good computer literacy for effective data management and reporting.
• Work in partnership with colleagues and external agencies to ensure coordinated support for families.
• Be flexible to work occasional evenings and Saturdays. The centre operates between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m, and some lone working will be required

Requirements
• A minimum of Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a recognised professional field such as health, education, childcare, or social care
• Strong understanding of Child Protection Procedures and safeguarding practices
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proven experience working with families from diverse backgrounds
• A valid UK driving licence with access to a car during working hours
• Willingness to travel regularly; business-use car insurance is essential
• An enhanced DBS check is required for this role

If you are passionate about making a real difference for families and children in our community, we would love to hear from you. Please apply today and join our dedicated team.
