About the role
SUDS Engineer (Sustainable Drainage Design) – Balfour Beatty (@one Alliance)
Join a groundbreaking team shaping the future of sustainable water management!
@one Alliance is a partnership of eight leading companies—Anglian Water, Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska, and SWECO—delivering over half of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme. As we enter AMP8, our most ambitious Asset Management Period, we are preparing to undertake our largest project yet. This is a unique opportunity to drive industry change, set global standards, and foster career growth.
We’re looking for an innovative SUDS Engineer to play a pivotal role in delivering AMP8 projects across diverse environments—rural, urban, and public spaces. You’ll be at the forefront of designing sustainable drainage solutions, from initial concepts to supporting construction phases. Your role involves collaborating with stakeholders—including highway authorities, local councils, businesses, and community groups—to develop effective solutions for both people and the environment.
What you'll be doing
Key responsibilities include:
* Identifying and developing catchment-based opportunities for Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) across Anglian Water regions.
* Collaborating with modelling teams to assess the impact and benefits of proposed solutions.
* Interpreting technical data, reviewing drawings, and scoping surveys to bring SuDS concepts to life.
* Integrating SuDS solutions within complex urban environments using practical experience in the built environment.
* Conducting hydraulic design of SuDS solutions using modelling software such as MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow, or InfoDrainage.
* Working with the BIM team to translate technical sketches into detailed drawings and specifications.
* Enhancing Anglian Water’s SuDS standards by applying best practices, including The CIRIA SuDS Manual and relevant British Standards.
* Providing technical insights on project scope, budgets, and timelines.
Who we're looking for
Ideal candidates will have:
* A degree in Environmental Design, Engineering, or a related field.
* Expertise in hydraulic design principles, including peak flow and volume control, aligned with the CIRIA SuDS Manual and national guidelines.
* A proven track record of developing innovative SuDS solutions to reduce spills from combined sewer overflows and mitigate flood risks.
* Practical knowledge of CDM regulations and their application in sustainable drainage projects.
This is your chance to make a lasting impact in sustainable water management while working with some of the industry's best. If you’re passionate about engineering a greener future, we’d love to hear from you!
Apply now and be part of something transformational!
