Rolling Stock / Coach Building Engineer
Location: Colwick TMD, Victoria Retail Park, Netherfield, Nottingham, NG4 2PE
Salary: £52,000 per annum + overtime opportunities
Working Hours: 40 hours per week (4 x 10-hour shifts)
Shift Pattern: Monday–Thursday or Tuesday–Friday, 07:00–17:00
Holiday: 28 days annual leave
About Us
Boden Rail Engineering Ltd is a well-established diesel locomotive maintenance depot based at Colwick TMD. We specialise in the servicing, maintenance, heavy engineering, and full overhaul of Class 37, Class 56 and Class 60 locomotives.
We are currently looking to expand our team by recruiting an experienced Rolling Stock / Coach Building Engineer with a strong background in locomotive engineering and coach building.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Duties
Carry out servicing operations during A, B, and F examinations
Undertake safety-critical tasks in line with industry requirements
Brake re-blocking and maintenance
Bogie refurbishment work
Power unit overhaul and refurbishment
Fault finding and diagnosis
Pressure washing of locomotives and components
Assist in lifting, fitting, and removal of parts
Safe operation of overhead cranes
Removal and refitting of mechanical and structural components
Complete maintenance documentation, including block cards and repair records
Load banking activities
Carry out bodywork and structural repairs
Welding and fabrication work
Fibreglass repairs
Woodworking tasks
Perform coach building and rolling stock refurbishment duties
General Depot Duties
Maintain a clean, safe, and organised depot environment
Assist with stock control and materials management
Support and follow all health and safety procedures
Skills & Experience
Experience in heavy engineering and/or railway depot environments
Proven experience in locomotive servicing, maintenance and rolling stock coach building
Knowledge of Class 37, Class 56 and Class 60 locomotives is desirable
Strong practical engineering and fault-finding capabilities
Ability to work effectively within a small team
Good communication skills and a positive, motivated approach

Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Engineering (or equivalent)
Full UK driving licence (required for occasional field-based work)
Willingness to complete PTS (Personal Track Safety) training and associated medical
Physical Requirements
Ability to climb locomotive steps
Comfortable working in confined spaces
Capability to lift and handle heavy components
Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Additional Information
The role involves working in both covered and open depot areas
Overtime is available, including weekend work
A full medical assessment is required prior to employment
Random drug and alcohol testing is carried out due to the safety-critical nature of the role
