About the Role
The Cellular Pathology Department at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (ESHT) is seeking a Locum Consultant Histopathologist to join a friendly, efficient team of six histopathologists on a 10 Programme Activity per week basis.
The post holder will play an active role in the general workload of the department, with a specialist interest in reporting gynaecological histology. The successful candidate will join an impressive team dedicated to providing a first‑class patient‑centred service. The post suits either a first‑time consultant or an established consultant histopathologist wishing to relocate. Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons to work full‑time will be considered for the post.
Department Overview
The Cellular Pathology Department undertakes histopathology, cytopathology, immunohistochemistry and autopsy pathology. Consultants share the work in breast pathology, dermatopathology, gastrointestinal pathology, uropathology, and diagnostic cytopathology. Gynaecological pathology is currently outsourced. There is no cervical cytology requirement. Participation in the coronial autopsy service is optional. The department is live with Digital Pathology, using the Sectra PACS reporting system in combination with the Hamamatsu NanoZoomer scanners, with potential for remote reporting.
Responsibilities
* Provide a first‑class service.
* Lead all staff engaged in the specialty.
* Sustain and develop teaching at ESHT.
* Undertake all work in accordance with the Trust’s procedures and operating policies.
* Conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust’s service plans.
* As a specialist in reporting gynaecological pathology, undertake continuing professional development (CPD) related to the role, including gynae EQA and e‑learning.
* Attend colposcopy MDT as a minimum, and gynae MDT if desired.
Network and Governance
ESHT forms part of the Sussex Pathology Network, collaborating with University Hospitals Sussex and Queen Victoria Hospital to fulfill the network’s maximum potential.
