Our client a London University is seeking a Head of Governance on an Interim basis, based in their Central London site. This role dose come with a hybrid working.
• Provide advice to the Board of Directors and the Executive Team on governance, regulatory, constitutional and procedural matters
• Take responsibility for maintaining an up-to-date Committee & Compliance Calendar to ensure all external reporting requirements, returns (e.g. of the OfS, QAA, UKVI, HESA et al) and deadlines are fully met
• Ensure the effective organisation and management of Board and committee business – preparing agendas, liaising effectively with those preparing papers and reports, drafting minutes and actions with clear ownership and timeframes for approval by the Chairs
• Maintain robust Risk Management and Board Assurance frameworks
• Act as the University’s Data Protection Officer in relation to GDPR legislation responsible for updating the Data Protection Policy including advising the Vice Chancellor's Executive Team (VCET) and colleagues as necessary to ensure implementation and compliance.
• Obtain appropriate legal advice to VCET and the Board where necessary on matters including Competition & Markets Authority compliance, agreements with partner institutions and contracts
• Ensure adequate provision of internal audit – working with the Finance Director and Audit Committee to ensure planning and delivery of a risk-based internal annual plan
• Oversee the framework for policy approval in line with effective committee planning and ensure that University policies are reviewed and updated at agreed intervals.
• Actively seek to implement the University’s Health and safety policy, and give due regard to the health and safety of themselves and others when carrying out duties.
Personal Requirements:
• Degree/professional qualification or equivalent
• Experience of operating within a Governance function at a senior level and Company Secretary Experience
• Knowledge of GDPR, Data Protection and the Prevent Duty
• A working knowledge of key legal matters in a Higher Education environment
• Highly effective communication skills and the credibility to command respect from all stakeholders as well as the ability to show sensitivity, good judgment and tact, particularly when dealing with confidential matters
• Ability to work with others and behave in a way that supports the University’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
