The Database Administrator is responsible for the management and support of databases on our customer sites across Europe. From our office in Market Harborough, you will be part of the team that keeps our sites across Europe running efficiently day-to-day. Once settled, you can work on a hybrid basis from home and the office, although you may prefer to work in the office to make use of the gym, coffee, and snacks.
What you'll be handling:
1. Creation and maintenance of all databases required across the business, including development, testing, and production environments.
2. Perform capacity planning to create and maintain the databases.
3. Work closely with System Administrators to manage the IT infrastructure environment.
4. Install, patch, and upgrade Oracle RDBMS and associated tools.
5. Plan and implement backups and recovery of Oracle databases, including managing the Disaster Recovery Process using RMAN and other tools.
6. Support and maintain Oracle DataGuard and GoldenGate installations.
7. Provide database support for new databases and projects in development.
8. Implement and maintain security processes and procedures for all Oracle databases.
9. Maintain and tune database performance to ensure optimal performance and availability, with good knowledge of AWR.
10. Evaluate new Oracle releases and third-party products for suitability.
11. Provide technical support to the customer support hotline, IT, and WCS teams.
12. Administer database objects and perform impact analysis of changes.
13. Troubleshoot and analyze database-related issues, applications, and development tools.
14. Write and maintain SQL stored procedures, scripts, and shell scripts.
15. Manage resource sharing among applications.
16. Work effectively in a customer-facing role with good communication skills.
17. Apply fault-finding and diagnostic methodologies.
18. Support the implementation of managed services within the wider business.
What you'll need:
1. Good knowledge of Linux operating systems.
2. Performance monitoring and tuning of Oracle and operating systems.
3. Installation and administration of DataGuard.
4. Scripting skills in Shell and PL/SQL.
5. Experience with installation, updating, and patching of Oracle databases.
6. Excellent knowledge of Oracle backup and recovery procedures (RMAN).
7. Strong understanding of Oracle security and resource management.
8. Experience in code migration, database changes, and data management throughout project lifecycle.
9. Experience in database and program performance testing.
