Day-to-day duties will include providing care for elective surgical patients as part of their pre-operative assessment. You will work in a clinic environment with nurses, healthcare assistants, and anaesthetists, collaborating to achieve positive patient outcomes. The role involves independently organizing clinic lists, taking drug histories, and making medication amendments under the supervision of the Lead Pharmacist. There may be opportunities for teaching trainee nurses, pharmacists, and placement students.
You will also work on surgical wards as a ward-based technician, performing drug histories, assisting with discharges, and managing inpatient medication supply while promoting positive medicines management. The role includes a weekly slot in the main pharmacy dispensary, performing dispensing or checking roles depending on qualifications.

You will liaise with Clinical Pharmacy Practitioners and Senior Pharmacy Technicians to maintain ward stocks and process drug returns. The role involves dispensing medicines, including controlled drugs, in accordance with departmental policies, the Medicines Act 1965, and the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, using the JAC computer system. Maintaining documentation, managing stock replacement, and issuing medicines to outpatients with appropriate advice are also key duties.
