Overview
SEMH Teaching Assistant - Primary (KS2). Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Fawley, Hampshire, supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This full-time role is ideal for someone with experience supporting children in educational or care settings, or with transferable skills such as youth work, coaching, or mentoring.
Contract/Position Details
* Location: Fawley, Hampshire
* Position: SEMH Teaching Assistant - Primary
* Type of work: 1:1 and small group support in classroom and intervention settings
* Start date: ASAP
* Duration: Temp to Perm (long-term opportunity)
* Contract type: Full-time, Term time only
* Daily rate: £104.70 per day
* Working hours: 8:30am - 4:30pm, Monday to Friday
Responsibilities
* Supporting children with SEMH needs on a 1:1 or small group basis
* Implementing behaviour management strategies and personalised learning plans
* Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
* Supporting class teachers in delivering engaging, accessible lessons
* Contributing to a safe, nurturing learning environment
* Liaising with external agencies and school staff to monitor progress
* Promoting pupil independence, self-regulation, and emotional wellbeing
Ideal Candidate Will Have
* Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEN or challenging behaviour
* Strong communication and de-escalation skills
* Patience, empathy, and resilience
* Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) - preferred
* Team Teach or similar positive handling training - desirable
* English and Maths GCSE (Grade C/4 or above)
* Ability to use basic IT systems (email, MS Office, etc.)

* Right to Work in the UK
* Enhanced child DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)
* Two professional references covering the last two years
* Completion of safeguarding and vetting checks
