We are looking for a Systems Engineer with experience of Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) in a Defence or complex engineering environment to support the development of IT and communication systems across the full engineering lifecycle. You will play a key role in shaping complex Defence systems from concept through to design and delivery, ensuring robust, coherent solutions that underpin mission‑critical capabilities.
Responsibilities
* Elicit, analyse, and manage stakeholder and system requirements, ensuring traceability across the lifecycle.
* Develop system architectures and design artefacts, including functional, logical, and physical views.
* Support decomposition of requirements from system to subsystem and component levels.
* Contribute to the development of interface definitions and integration considerations across systems.
* Collaborate with architects, developers, and integration teams to ensure coherent and feasible system designs.
* Support verification and validation planning, ensuring requirements are testable and aligned to acceptance criteria.
* Contribute to systems engineering documentation and governance artefacts in line with MOD and industry standards.
Qualifications and Experience
* Degree qualified in Systems Engineering, Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
* Excellent communication skills, able to engage with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
* Ability to work collaboratively within multi‑disciplinary teams.
* Proven experience as a Systems Engineer in Defence or complex system environments, with a strong understanding of MBSE and lifecycle models (V‑model, Agile, hybrid).
* Experience across the systems engineering lifecycle, focusing on requirements, architecture and design phases.
* Experience in requirements engineering (elicitation, analysis, management).
* Ability to develop system architecture artefacts and design documentation, understanding of integration concepts, interfaces and dependencies.
* Experience supporting integration and V&V activities, understanding how designs translate into testable systems.
Standards and Frameworks
* Familiarity with systems engineering standards such as ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288.
* Awareness of MOD frameworks and governance environments.
* Knowledge of requirements management and modelling tools (e.g. DOORS, SparxEA).
