Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our expanding Planning team based in our recently modernised offices in Pontypool. Torfaen lies to the north of Newport and the M4 corridor in south Wales, and includes Cwmbran New Town, Pontypool and associated valley communities, and the Blaenavon Industrial Landscape World Heritage Site.
Working in the Planning Policy and Implementation Team, this position provides the opportunity to help shape the future development of the area and play a key role in delivering the Council’s regeneration and growth aspirations and helping create a Replacement Local Development Plan, which is moving towards Preferred Strategy stage.
The successful candidate will be appointed depending on experience, qualifications and RTPI Membership. Career progression is dependent on achieving and demonstrating the requirements in the Person Specification set out in the Job Description.
Candidates must hold a qualification in Town Planning, or equivalent, and will be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of the planning system and planning legislation, especially in relation to planning policy.

Qualifications / Experience:
Essential
1. Recognised degree level qualification in Town Planning.
2. At least 2 years experience in planning policy.
3. Basic up to date knowledge and awareness of current planning issues, practice and legislation.
4. Ability to travel in a timely manner to meet the needs of the service.
Desirable
5. To be committed to fostering equal opportunities.
6. To be customer oriented in the delivery of the Council’s Development Management Service.
