Job Summary
This advert is for a full-time 12-month fixed-term post as a Senior Clinical Fellow (ST3+ equivalent) level in General Surgery at Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience in a wide range of surgical areas with exposure to theatres and outpatient clinics. This post would be suitable for a candidate in the process of applying for national selection for a training post or for a more experienced surgeon looking for a post in a thriving department.
Possession of MRCS or equivalent and full registration with the GMC is essential.
This post provides ample training opportunities in General Surgery, and you will be expected to participate in audit, research, and teaching.
Main duties of the job
* The post holder will work with Consultant-led teams and will be responsible for managing acute admissions.
* Opportunities to assist in emergency surgical procedures during on-call commitments.
* Participate in the Middle Grade General Surgery 1:11 on-call rota.

Job Responsibilities
* Manage surgical inpatients daily.
* Assist consultants in outpatient clinics and operating theatres.
* Participate in the Middle Grade on-call rota and cover in exceptional circumstances.
* Assess, care for, and treat patients presenting to the specialty.
* Attend clinics, assess patients, and formulate treatment plans with consultant advice.
* Attend operating sessions, assisting or performing operations as appropriate.
* Conduct daily inpatient ward rounds, supervising junior doctors.
* Teach and train staff across disciplines.
* Maintain effective communication with team members.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Training (Essential):
* MBBS or equivalent
* Full GMC registration
* MRCS
* ALS
Desirable: ATLS
Experience (Essential):
* At least 2 years of Surgical Core Training or higher
Desirable: Experience in General Surgery at ST3+ level
Skills (Essential):
* Good IT skills
* Excellent written and spoken English
* Ability to present at departmental meetings
* Knowledge of audit processes
* Understanding of clinical research principles
Desirable: Previous involvement in audits or research publications
