What you'll be doing:
Develop, maintain, and optimise a robust IT Database function that supports the group's operations by managing cloud-based and on-premises SQL Server databases. Ensure seamless data access, performance, security, and compliance across Azure platforms (PaaS, IaaS, and SaaS) and on-premises environments. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including cloud engineers, security specialists, and architects, to ensure effective database management. Lead projects independently from start to finish and maintain up-to-date documentation.
* Manage and monitor databases distributed across different Azure regions and availability zones, ensuring optimal data replication and failover management.
* Develop and maintain automated data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Logic Apps for seamless data movement and transformations.
* Review SQL Code for performance issues, suggesting and implementing optimisation strategies.
* Implement and maintain robust backup and recovery strategies for cloud and on-premises databases
What we’re looking for:
* Significant experience working in SQL environments, including database design, optimisation, and management (SQL Server 2019+)
* Advanced expertise in Azure SQL and Azure SQL Managed Instances with a focus on performance tuning, HA, and DR.
* Strong skills in SQL troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and T-SQL query development.
* Proficient in PowerShell, Azure CLI, and automation for administrative efficiency
* Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines management
* In-depth understanding of database security, encryption, and auditing
