Hays Health & Safety are excited to be working with an established waste management organisation based in North Yorkshire to find a HSEQ Advisor, initially on a temporary basis with a potential view to make the position permanent. This is a hands‑on site‑based HSEQ role within one of the UK’s most advanced waste recovery facilities. You’ll be part of an organisation where safety, sustainability andpliance are not just expectations, but core values embedded into everyday operations.
The role
You’ll be part of a small, collaborative on‑site HSEQ team, supported by a wider central HSEQ function. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being visible on site, building relationships with operational teams, and taking ownership of HSEQ performance day to day.
You’ll act as a trusted adviser, supportingpliance while also influencing behaviours and driving continual improvement across Health, Safety, Environment and Quality.
Key responsibilities
1. Providing practical HSEQ support across a regulated operational environment
2. Carrying out site inspections, audits and proactive safety tours
3. Investigating incidents, near misses and close calls, ensuring learning is embedded
4. Developing, reviewing and improving risk assessments, RAMS and safe systems of work
5. Delivering toolbox talks and supporting frontline HSEQ awareness and training
6. Supportingpliance with Environment Agency permits and ISO standards
7. Promoting a strong, positive safety culture aligned with the organisation’s Zero Code
8. Monitoring HSEQ performance data and producing clear, meaningful reports
What we’re looking for
9. NEBOSH General Certificate pleted or currently working towards)
10. Experience in an operational, industrial, regulated or high‑risk environment
11. Solid working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation
12. Confidentmunicator,fortable engaging with teams at all levels
13. Proactive, organised and capable of working independently on site
14. Practical, solutions‑focused mindset with a collaborative approach
15. Experience within waste, energy, manufacturing or similar sectors is advantageous but not essential
