Overview
As an Usher/Admin Assistant you will play a pivotal role in court proceedings, providing an essential link between court users and the judiciary. You will provide excellent administrative support and customer service and be an essential first point of contact for all court users. You will work with the judiciary and administrative staff, meet members of the public (which may include vulnerable witnesses and their legal representatives), prepare court/hearing rooms, complete documentation, and help ensure the court runs efficiently. You will carry out general clerical work as required to support HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS). Ushers work in a team with regular management support and are responsible for their own time. These operational roles are customer facing and office-based to provide HMCTS services to the public.
Responsibilities
* Provide administrative support and excellent customer service to court users; act as the first point of contact.
* Prepare court/hearing rooms and complete required documentation; support the smooth running of court proceedings.
* Perform general clerical tasks to support HMCTS operations and work within a team with management support.
* Work in a customer-facing, office-based role; manage own time effectively to meet role demands.
Working Arrangements and Hours
Standard full-time hours are 37 per week. HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing patterns where they meet role and business needs and are agreed prior to appointment. All applications for flexible patterns will be considered in accordance with the MoJ Flexible Working policy.
Qualifications and Skills
* Friendly and approachable manner with strong communication skills; ability to assist and address court users clearly and confidently.
* Ability to multi-task, prioritise and organise own time, undertaking administrative tasks.
* Comfort with IT and attention to detail to ensure court documents are accurate; able to learn new software packages.
* Calm, professional, and reassuring approach in potentially challenging situations.
Security and Right to Work
* Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check.
* Baseline personnel security standard checks apply for those working with government assets.
Nationality and Eligibility
* UK nationals; nationals of the Republic of Ireland; nationals of Commonwealth countries with the right to work in the UK.
* nationals of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein and family members with settled or pre-settled status under the EUSS, or those who have made a valid application for settled status under the EUSS.
* Individuals with limited leave to remain or indefinite leave to remain who were eligible to apply for EUSS on or before 31 December 2020.
* Turkish nationals and certain family members who have accrued the right to work in the Civil Service.
