Responsibilities
* Undertake research to understand the mechanisms of protein quality control and membrane protein biogenesis.
* Identify, develop and apply a broad range of techniques to pursue research objectives.
* Present scientific work at laboratory seminars and external meetings.
* Contribute to laboratory-wide discussions on developments within the field.
* Draft scientific papers and contribute to the preparation of research for publication.
* Support the LMB's public engagement mission and translate research findings into health‑care improvements.
* Assist in training PhD students and other members of the LMB.
* Plan and manage experimental work on a 12‑month basis with the supervisor.
* Ensure research is conducted in accordance with good practice and local policies.
* Contribute to the smooth running of the group, including effective use of resources and communal facilities.
* Enhance research and generic skills through a tailored development programme.
Training & Development
* Participate in MRC training courses and external professional development courses.
* Receive one‑to‑one training with the supervisor and other scientists.
* Develop and follow a personal development plan.
* Attend designated training courses and identify additional training to advance your career.
Qualifications
* PhD (or completion of PhD within six months) in biochemistry, structural biology, biophysics or related fields.
* High level of proficiency with protein purification and biophysical characterization.
* Experience with protein structure determination and interpretation.
* Experience with in vitro reconstitution of protein function using biochemical and biophysical assays.
* For Project 2: Experience with cell biological assays including mammalian cell culture and genetic manipulation.
* Knowledge of the biology of the endoplasmic reticulum and chaperones.
* Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
