The Control & Protection System Engineer supports the design and implementation of HVDC Control and Protection Systems by analyzing customer requirements, assessing deviations from standard solutions, modeling the proposed HVDC control system, and providing requirements for hardware and software teams to implement and validate the system.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities
1. Execute control design, protection design, and verification work packages under guidance, on time and within budget.
2. Follow standard design practices, engineering reviews, and guidelines.
3. Prepare specifications, design, and testing plans for control, protection, and sequencing strategies.
4. Perform power system network conversion, modeling, and verification using PSSE / PSCAD and RSCAD.
5. Model HVDC systems in simulation tools (MATLAB, RSCAD, PSCAD) and verify models.
6. Develop algorithms and state machines in MATLAB Simulink.
7. Convert MATLAB Simulink algorithms to suitable time domain library models.
8. Support improvements to existing algorithms and strategies for fault recovery and stability during DPS studies.
9. Assist in developing new control, protection, and sequencing strategies to meet customer specifications.
10. Support R&D teams in developing products and tools.
11. Contribute to continuous improvement through tools, methods, and process enhancements.
12. Participate in cross-functional training across control automation, control system application, protection system application, verification, and validation teams.
Qualifications & Essential Requirements
1. Engineering degree or equivalent in power systems and power electronics.
2. Sense of urgency and ability to manage technical risks.
3. Strong written and verbal communication skills, experience in technical reporting and client interactions.
4. Ability to understand and communicate customer requirements.
5. Ability to work under deadlines while maintaining safety, quality, and engineering standards.
Desired Characteristics
1. Studies in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems.
2. Ability to define requirements adhering to best practices.
