The Role: Were looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Catering Assistant to join our Foundation Learning team at the East Ham Campus. This rewarding role involves supporting the smooth running of the college kitchen and café while working alongside learners with learning difficulties and/or physical disabilities. Youll play a key part in helping them develop valuable practical and employability skills in a real working environment. Working closely with teaching staff and job coaches, youll help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where every learner can thrive. Key Responsibilities: Support teaching staff in delivering practical kitchen and café-based learning activities. Assist learners with food preparation, hygiene, and safety practices. Provide one-to-one or small group support, encouraging independence and confidence. Help maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and compliance with health & safety regulations. Carry out stock checks, manage supplies, and liaise with suppliers for orders and deliveries. Support or cover for the Job Coach in the café when required, helping learners develop customer service and catering skills. Promote a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment for learners and colleagues. Attend meetings, training sessions, and CPD opportunities as part of your professional development. Our Ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, skills and experience. Youll be someone who is patient, proactive, and passionate about making a difference in learners lives. Youll enjoy working in a hands-on environment and have a flexible, can-do attitude. Essential Skills & Experience: Minimum of Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy (GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent) IT skills sufficient to support learners and develop resources Experience supporting learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Knowledge of safeguarding, equality, and health & safety practices Strong communication and interpersonal skills Desirable: Experience working in a kitchen, café, or food preparation environment Knowledge of Makaton or PECS Food hygiene or health & safety certification Experience managing challenging behaviour Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable Adults In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education.
