Overview
University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (279) invites applications for the post of Consultant Medical Oncologist with an interest in Breast, AO and Lung cancers. The post is based at Eastbourne District General Hospital but employed by UHSussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with sessions at ESHT and UHSussex. The closing date is 30 September 2025.
The Sussex Cancer Centre Oncology Service is a team of oncologists employed through University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, working across the county to provide clinical and medical oncology care. This includes non-surgical cancer treatments across five hospital locations (Brighton, Haywards Heath, Worthing, Hastings, Eastbourne) with acute service support in Chichester.
The appointee will work alongside colleagues in the Breast, AO & Lung sites reference groups, which comprises a multidisciplinary team including clinical oncologists, medical oncologists, pharmacists, clinical nurse specialists and cancer support workers. The appointee will have an on-call commitment at the Royal Sussex County Hospital on a >1:9 rota (currently 1 in 20).
Main duties of the job
The appointee will join a team of about 30 Clinical/Medical consultant oncologists who work across Sussex (Worthing, Brighton, Haywards Heath, Eastbourne and Hastings) to deliver a comprehensive oncology service for patients from across the Trust. Key duties include regular outpatient clinics, MDT attendance, SACT prescribing and oversight, clinical supervision of non-medical staff, clinical governance, service developments, ward reviews and on-call duties. It is also anticipated that the successful applicant will take an active role in education for trainees at all grades. The appointee will contribute to teaching and supervision of medical students, junior medical staff and AHPs/nurses. Applicants are encouraged to take part in research and audit and to support junior team members in their audit projects.

Person Specification
Experience & Qualifications
* Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview. If you trained in the UK, you must also have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Oncology or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date. If you trained outside the UK, you must provide evidence that your qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC).
