Wells & Co are currently undergoing an exciting Business Change programme, offering significant expansion opportunities across our Pub Division and Brewery in Bedford. To support this growth, we are seeking a Finance Director to enhance productivity and enable the finance department to provide greater value-added services to our customer-focused retail business.
Reporting to the CFO, this role oversees the entire finance function within the group, ensuring exceptional financial management, insight, and challenge to support and accelerate business performance. The successful candidate will communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, fostering clear vision and expectations.
As a key member of the Operating Board, the Finance Director will participate in high-profile projects and be part of a dynamic, evolving culture.

Position Responsibilities:
1. Manage and develop the finance department, making decisions across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Tax, Treasury, Payroll, and Financial & Management Accounting.
2. Oversee monthly financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, 5-year financial plans, and statutory reporting.
3. Present financial results and insights to the Board and non-finance stakeholders.
4. Contribute to the formulation of the business strategy.
5. Manage taxation affairs and liaise with external tax advisors.
6. Oversee relationships with external auditors and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
7. Manage banking, borrowing arrangements, and relationships with investors and banks.
8. Oversee financial systems and processes.
9. Support commercial decision-making through tender, margin, and pricing analysis.
10. Implement best practices to increase revenue and reduce costs.
11. Provide strategic financial advice on market changes to the Board.
12. Develop the retail focus and ensure the finance function offers the required level of service.
Requirements:
1. ACCA or ACA qualification with senior financial managerial experience.
2. Trained and qualified in a Top 10 Accountancy Firm with 4-5 years PQE in industry.
3. Strong commercial understanding of multi-site retail/hospitality businesses.
4. High cognitive intelligence with sound decision-making skills based on accurate analysis.
5. Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
6. Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
7. Strategic thinking, planning, and creative problem-solving abilities.
8. Experience in implementing new systems and improving existing processes.
9. Advanced skills in Excel and financial reporting software.
10. Ability to explain complex ideas clearly to both finance and non-finance colleagues.
11. Strong time management and workload planning skills.
12. Developed presentation skills, including board presentations.
