Energy Monitoring and Verification Assistant
3 days ago – Be among the first 25 applicants.
About the Role
This role involves the collection and analysis of energy-related data from university buildings to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs and carbon emissions. Your key challenge is to identify opportunities for optimisation in heating, lighting, cooling, and ventilation by interpreting information from building users, energy meters, building management systems, and direct measurements such as air temperature, water consumption, light levels, ventilation rates, and air quality.
Your findings will support the Carbon Manager and other colleagues in the Facilities and Estates Team to reduce energy use, costs, and carbon emissions across university buildings, aligning with the university’s aim to achieve net‑zero carbon emissions by 2040.
Job Description
In this role you will:
* Collect, collate, interpret, and visualise energy-related data using standard software packages such as MS Excel or Power BI.
* Apply a basic understanding of energy‑efficiency principles to evaluate heating, ventilation, cooling, lighting, and power systems.
* Identify and quantify opportunities for energy and water savings, and support cost‑effective interventions.
* Interpret BMS/BEMS front‑end graphics and associated controls commonly found in university buildings.
* Use hardware, software, and analysis techniques to measure energy and water efficiency.
* Operate energy‑management software (e.g., Systems Link, Team EA) and undergo training where needed.
About the Team
You will work within the busy Facilities and Estates team, supporting the Carbon Manager and collaborating with the in‑house maintenance team and external providers to improve the energy efficiency and cost‑effectiveness of university buildings. The role is based primarily at Northumbria University’s City Campus, with additional responsibilities at Coach Lane Campus.
About You
* Proficient numeracy skills and demonstrable ability to use MS Excel or Power BI for data analysis.
* Basic understanding of energy‑efficiency principles relating to heating, ventilation, cooling, lighting, and power.
* Knowledge of key drivers for reducing energy and water use, costs, and carbon emissions.
* Experience interpreting BMS/BEMS front‑end graphics and associated controls.
* Familiarity with approaches to measure energy and water efficiency, including hardware, software, and analysis techniques.
* Previous experience with energy‑management software (e.g., Systems Link, Team EA) or willingness to undertake training.
