Job Overview
The post is for a substantive Consultant in Plastic Surgery with a Skin Cancer, Mohs and Laser Surgery interest. It is a whole-time position within the Mersey Regional Burns and Plastic Surgery unit at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, with a weekly peripheral site clinical commitment.
Main Duties of the job
The appointee will have responsibility for the running of their clinical service, integrating this with the department as a whole and ensuring appropriate communication with general practitioners, managers, and hospital committees. The appointee will be responsible for contributing to the achievement of the Trust’s contractual obligations and business plans. They will ensure their clinical service complies with Clinical Governance principles, including appropriate audit, clinical targets, key performance indicators (KPIs), evidence‑based practice, and continuous personal development. The appointee will also comply with appraisal procedures, job planning and revalidation requirements.

Qualifications
* Full GMC registration and on Specialist Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview
* Applicants that are UK trained must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Non‑UK trained applicants must provide evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT on successful application.
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* MRCS or equivalent medical qualification
* FRCS (Plast) or equivalent
* Valid Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Provider Status
* Member BAPRAS
Knowledge
* Evidence of achievement of competencies in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice, including good clinical care, maintaining good medical practice, good patient communication, collegial relationships, teaching, professional behaviour, and delivery of acute clinical care.
* Demonstrate English language proficiency adequate for effective communication with patients and colleagues.
* Clinical knowledge and expertise in laser, Mohs, and skin cancer management.
* Laser core knowledge.
* In‑depth knowledge and experience in Mohs and skin cancer, including fellowship in skin cancer.

* Research: Ability to undertake robust audit/research within the team in the last 3 years.
* Teaching: Evidence of appropriate teaching experience within the last 3 years.
* Communication: Clear written and spoken communication skills and the ability to adapt language as appropriate.

* Teamwork: Capacity to work effectively with others and in multi‑professional teams.
* Supervision: Ability to supervise junior medical staff.

* Basic IT skills.
* Vigilance: Ability to monitor developing situations and anticipate issues.
* Pressure handling: Ability to operate under pressure and demonstrate initiative and resilience to cope with changing circumstances.
* Evidence of relevant research publications in peer‑reviewed journals or presentations within the last 3 years, relevant to plastic surgery, laser, Mohs and skin cancer surgery.
* Evidence of relevant academic achievements or awards within the last 3 years.
