SEMH Teacher – Full-time, temporary to permanent from September 2026 This SEMH Teacher role offers the opportunity to work within a small alternative education provision supporting secondary‑aged pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs. This SEMH Teacher role is ideal for an experienced secondary teacher or a primary‑trained teacher who is confident delivering learning within an alternative provision model. Duties as SEMH Teacher: Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to pupils with SEMH needs Teach secondary‑aged pupils within a small alternative education provision Create a calm, structured, and predictable learning environment Use positive behaviour support and emotional regulation strategies consistently Adapt teaching approaches to meet individual academic and emotional needs Build strong, trusting relationships to support engagement and progress Monitor and assess pupil progress, adapting learning plans as required Work collaboratively with support staff and wider professionals Contribute to individual support plans and intervention strategies Uphold safeguarding, welfare, and health and safety responsibilities at all times Ideal SEMH Teacher: Qualified Teacher Status or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification Experience working with pupils with SEMH needs Primary‑trained teachers with relevant experience are encouraged to apply Strong behaviour management and de‑escalation skills Calm, resilient, and reflective teaching approach Ability to adapt teaching for a small, specialist setting Strong communication and relationship‑building skills Willingness to commit to a temporary role with the opportunity to become permanent Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people Why Step Teachers?
